Bridal Expo

This past weekend, the boy and I worked my first bridal expo booth. It was very exciting to say the least! Of course going into it I had the nerves and dreaded all sorts of things, like "What if no one comes to my booth?", "What if people think makeup isn't that important?", "What if my booth isn't VaVaVoom enough for them?". Well, I got over all my fears super fast. It seemed like once those doors opened people flooded in and headed straight for my table. I couldn't believe it! I met tons of different people, answered yearning questions about my job, and above all had the biggest smile on my face:). My wonderful bf was such a big help as well. It was so nice to have some extra support there for when I was questioning myself and needed to be brought back down to earth. Oh and did I mention he offered to go?? Such a keeper that one is :).

I'm so thrilled that everything went as well as it did this past weekend. Sometimes I find that I doubt this job way more than I should, but I think that's normal and keeps me grounded. And right when I start to doubt everything this makeup world entails, a "Rock Star" moment happens and I love my job even more and know that this is exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. It really proves the saying of "follow your dreams", and that's exactly what I did and I honestly couldn't be happier.

Oh Hello, Mr. Mailman

I finally jumped on the band wagon with all my girlfriends and purchased a Birchbox that they oh-so rave about each month. It's possibly one of the best ideas I've ever heard of and absolutely one of those that makes you go, "Why didn't I think of that?".

I really love this company! Not long ago they had an article in Cosmo about how they got started all the way to where they are now. Such an amazing story. I immediately ordered my monthly box!

After months and months and a few more months after that (seriously)of being outta the loop, I finally ordered it and received my samples for the month. My girlfriends haven't stopped talking about Birchbox for as long as I can remember and would talk about all the products they would receive each month. I was pleasantly surprised to find a ton of goodies. From nail polish to hair elixir, they give you tiny samples that are customized to your personality profile to try out and if you end up loving them (which I'm sure will happen with all the samples I get, I'm sorta a hoarder when it comes to products) you can purchase them through the website. How great is this?!?!

I highly recommend this deal to anyone and to jump on the band wagon a lot faster than I did. For just $10 a month you get a ton of stuff to try and you cannot beat the deal by any means! You'll love it and never look back!

Mod Monday

After a very eventful and busy weekend, this morning came way to early. This weekend was spent boating on the lake and grilling out with good company along with a fabulous wedding party in the early morning hours on Saturday. Kinda sad it all had to come to an end (tear:() So with all this said, I barely wore any makeup at all, but I love having weekends like this where I just throw on a bit of concealer, brows, and mascara and let all my freckles hang out without a care in the world.

Then life hit hard on Monday morning when my alarm clock went buzzing-a-muck at 7 a.m. and after much convincing to myself I finally pulled my tired behind outta bed. Ugh, coffee where are you?!?! Even though it was a groggy morning, I wanted to spice it up a bit and do a look that I sometimes wear that adds a pop of color but yet it is so simple and fast to achieve. Simple and fast before coffee in the morning?? Done and done. I feel it's going to be a good day when I spice up my eyes for the day, especially since this past weekend they were pretty much naked. They definitely needed a little ooomph this a.m.. It's great for spring and upcoming summer for any outfit. Love this look and hope you will too.

Line the bottom lash line with a pop of color
and add a little spice to a drabby day

Misfit by Nars. Dust the nude color all over the lid then
line the green shade with a thin wet brush on the bottom

My favorite thin brush by Trish McEvoy. You can use shadows
or cream liners to get a thin line of  color around the eye

Great brand for waterproof liner. I only use a pencil to line the inner
part of the eye. It tends to stay on longer throughout the day.

Love this mascara! Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara
adds doll-like lashes to any look

Homemade Facials

In makeup school, we were taught to make homemade facials using ingredients from our own fridge to apply to the face. Ingredients like egg whites and avocado can be used to tighten and moisturize the skin when left on for a period of time and the good news is it's all natural, so no chemicals or preservatives to aggravate your skin. Whoop Whoop!!

It's citrus fruit season and this means great news for our skin. Living in Florida and coming from a long line of family citrus growers, I've learned the many benefits that citrus fruit has on the body, inside and out. Their loaded with tons of antioxidants and vitamins that are great for your body and your mood. Adding a little citrus to your diet can really make your skin glow and help keep skin clear. The natural citric acid in the fruits is so highly acidic, it easily sloughs off and exfoliates dead skin cells. The detoxifying antiseptic properties help heal stretch marks, get rid of acne, and fight fungus.

So before you snack on one of these delicious fruits, try it out on your skin and see the transformation take place. You'll notice a brighter and healthier complexion within the first week. Enjoy!

Mandarin Scrub
1. 2 tsp baking soda
2. 2 tsp honey
3. 1/2 tsp mandarin juice

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix. In the shower, apply to the face and scrub for 2 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Lime Acne Treatment
1. 1 cup whole milk
2. juice of one lime
3. 1 tsp glycerin
Boil milk in a saucepan and add the lime juice and glycerin. Turn off the mixture and let it cool for 30 minutes. When cool, dab the mixture on the face using a washcloth and leave on over night. Wash off with warm water.

Va Va Voom

I'm in love with the new trend of red sultry lips these days. I'm rocking more and more of this look these days as well. The ladies of this years Academy Awards were loving it too. From Angelina to Emma, these girls were pulling it off fabulously. Everyone can pull off this amazing look only if you use the right shade of red. It's better to use a more pink red if you have more pink undertones in your skin and to use a more deep red if you have more blue undertones in your skin.

Many women have been hesitant to work the vixen deep inside of them, but I'm showing you the ease of how to pull off this classic look. Now you can rock a red lip whenever your heart desires. Rock it out!

My favorite red lipstick

Best liner ever! Too Faced Anti-Feathering Clear Liner.
Perfect to use with every shade of lipstick

Line your outer lip to prevent feathering
of lipstick in the long run

I add a little bit of moisturizer before applying my lipstick.
This prevents chapped lips and lipstick settling into creases

Fill in the lips for the most part with your
 lipstick avoiding the outer edge

Use a lip brush to perfectly line the edge of the lips.
This prevents smudging and mistakes

The fabulous end result! Now your ready for
a day/night on the town:)

B.B. Bonanza

The latest and greatest of foundations these days are the new B.B. Cream's from many different brands. One of my favorite's is by the skincare line Boscia and I'm absolutely obsessed with this stuff. If I'm running 10 minutes behind in the morning, I can swipe a little B.B. cream on, mascara, throw some brows on (can't be seen without them) and head out the door. It's definitely a must-have in my makeup bag, especially for the hot summer months.

Recently, a reader ask me if I've tried the new B.B. Cream by Smashbox. I hadn't, but I was very curious in seeing how this new product compared to my beloved Boscia. I decided to try it out and to my surprise it's just as amazing and has great coverage. The benefits are just as good as the Boscia product and I would definitely recommend using this product for a quick on-the-go moment.

Smashbox B.B. Cream with
amazing added benefits for the skin

Put a little on the tip of your finger.
Remember: a little goes a long way

I dab a little on each main area of the
face to get an even amount of coverage

Blend blend blend....and smile:)

the coverage is fantastic even
 before finishing off  the look

Ready to take on the day

Have any of you tried the new Smashbox B.B. Cream? What do you think? Have you ever tried a B.B. Cream of another brand?

Snookie Be Gone

Wedding season is in full effect here in Florida. I have been one busy-bee doing trial runs and wedding day makeups. Shewweeh! Loving the new people I'm meeting and especially knowing that I'm making someone look absolutely gorgeous for the biggest day of their life. It's really an honor to be a part of such a special moment.

Now that I'm back on the bandwagon and still "chuckin along" (as my mom would say), I'm excited to get back to the drawing board of answering some of life's (and women's) most sought after answers to makeup. I recently had a few people tell me that my recent bronzer/highlighter post was great and really gave them an idea of what type of products to but, but when in came time for them to get in front of the mirror, they froze. Do I put in all over my face?, What cheek bone?, Will I look like Snookie? Aaahhhhhh!!

Oh geez! I know this feeling. Bronzer can sometimes feel like the black hole of makeup. How on earth is it going to turn out? So to help before your head explodes, here's a little tutorial video to help out. Enjoy!!

"Who are you wearing?"

Love me some award shows. Have I told you this lately?? Their so fun to watch and see who is the best and worst dressed, who wins the award of the evening, and who's performance is "knocking it out". It's so festive and always gets me feeling how much I want to be walking that red carpet too (sigh), but then I think to myself that's exactly what I'm working to do (with my makeup work that is).

There's always the anticipation of who will walk the infamous red carpet and who will stun and shock us. From Versace to Prada the stars are decked to the hills and here are a few of my favorite makeup looks of the evening along with outfits.

Adele

Rihanna

Fergie
Carrie Underwood
Love these gals! From head-to-toe, they really hit it on the nose for their fabulous looks. What were your favorites of the evening? Who wore it best? Who wore it worst? Who wore it at all? Lol

The New Thin

Still trying to keep up with those " slim down" New Year's resolutions?? Ugh, let me just tell you, it really ain't easy. As I'm in the same boat as millions of other women out there, it's tough to stick with a diet and find time to hit the gym. So I got to thinking, we use fashion to flatter our figures, so why not incorporate some simple, slenderizing makeup tricks-of-the-trade? Contouring the face gives it an optical illusion in just seconds that can trick others into thinking you've lost tons of weight. It's also great if you want to down-play a feature on the face you may not be so crazy about, a.k.a "scalpel-free plastic surgery!" When you want to contour the face, it's always best to do it before you apply your foundation for the day, that way it looks more natural.

For the forehead, use a bronzer slightly 1-2 shades darker than your skin tone around the areas of the temples and hairline. This way you will appear to have a more narrow forehead, and what woman doesn't want that?!  To achieve this, I like to use my favorite Nars bronzer in Casino. This totally does the trick and looks amazing!! (Yes, this deserves two exclamation points)

For the nose, I like to slim just the upper sides (just under the eyes) and not all the way down. This way it will look more natural when trying to slim down the slightly, over powering snooter. Adding a little highlight to the top of the nose is a nice touch and draws attention only to that area making the bridge appear thinner. When doing this, I like to use a cream bronzer only because I can work it a little better in that area and to have the best end result. I use one that I got from the makeup school I went to, but you can use any dark shaded cream bronzer you like. As a highlighter, of course, I love using Nars' Albatross because...well, it's amazing!!

And last, but certainly not least, the cheeks. The cheeks can often be the hardest area to conceal, because they are usually the chubbiest part of the face. I like to use a bronzer 1-2 shades darker underneath the jawline and underneath the cheek bones. This will create a nice, sharpness to the chin and draw the eye towards the mouth area, giving you a thin sculpted face. Again, one of my favorite products to achieve the best results with is Nars bronzer in Casino. (You could use the Nars bronzer in Laguna, but I find that it tends to make me a little more orange in the winter months, but you can switch it between the two if you prefer).

And don't forget that the main key here is to BLEND BLEND BLEND! I can't stress it enough how important this is to create the natural, soft look your going for. This goes for eye makeup too, but that's a whole other chapter. You'll be slim in no time with these tricks-of-the-trade, no sweating or dieting needed.

What's your favorite slimming trick? Have you tried using bronzer to look slimmer? How'd it work out for you?

Glitter Me Pink

I'm so ready for spring to be here. Especially since living in Florida and our winter has literally felt like summer, I just want it to be official. There's nothing like wearing shorts while other parts of the country are bundled up to their eyeballs. I almost feel a little guilty about it....almost.

After a fun-filled weekend of BBQ festivities and Super Bowl hype, I found a little time for myself and wanted to amp up my "hand style" a little bit. I've been rocking the whole dark color scene for the winter season, but I'm ready to break out from the dreary months.

Pale pink is one of my absolute favorite colors to have on the nails. It makes them look longer, and more delicate looking and of course GORGEOUS! Instead of the norm of a regular pink and leaving it at that, I wanted to make my nails look extra flashy for a change.

Orly Bonder and Orly Glosser
I was reading about these products by Orly by a fellow blogger and decided to try it out. She swears by Orly Bonder and Orly Glosser during any of her manicure sessions and I can now understand where she's coming from. The Bonder is amazing in that it literally bonds your favorite nail polish to your nail and prevents chipping in the long run. The Glosser is great too! It helps keep nails super glossy and helps the nails dry faster. What woman doesn't want that?!

OPI in Step Right Up and
Sephora by OPI in Only Gold For Me

I love incorporating different styles in my life and in parts of my life. This glitter topcoat by OPI is one of my favorite new indulges right now. It gives an immaculate looking manicure a little spice for a change. Love love love!

The end result = So pretty!

I started by adding the Orly Bonder to the nails to have the lacquer attach to. I then added  2-3 coats of my favorite OPI nail color (a delicious creamy pink color) to get the precise layering that I like. I only added the Sephora by OPI nail glitter to my ring finger be a little funky and offset the usual. I added a topcoat of the Orly Glosser to each nail except the glittered nail, only because the glittered nail color is also a top coat. How awesome?!?!

I highly recommend trying this out and even trying it out with different nail colors underneath. There are so many options and so many looks out in the world today, but this is one of my favorite looks that is great for any season.

Prime Time

It's mind boggling to think how many products are out on the market today. It almost makes your head spin and not to mention the amount of competition between all of them. Sheesh! Well, yesterday I went to the streets (well, technically I went to the makeup counter in my bathroom) and wanted to see which, of all the primers out there, is the best.

So many primers, so little time....so I decided to do a little "product-off" of my very own. I took two of what I think are some of the best primers on the market and tested them out for a day: Nars Pro-Prime and Makeup ForEver's HD Primer. I love both of these products individually, but yet they both do their own thang. Nars Pro-Prime is a creamy liquid primer that helps minimize pore size and helps control the oil on the skin. Makeup ForEver's HD Primer is fabulous and probably one of my favorite products of all time. It helps with oil control and helps smooth out your makeup. Both of these products help makeup stay on longer and helps keep makeup from settling into pores.

To start my experiment, I washed and dried my face. I then added my eye cream for the day (preventative reasons of course y'all). Then I added a touch of moisturizer with SPF 45 to ward off premature aging and wrinkles (no bueno).

One of the few times you'll see
me without my face on :)
I then applied the Nars Pro-Prime to the right side of my face and Makeup ForEver HD Primer to the left side of my face. I then continued on with applying my makeup for the day and instantly started to see a difference between the two. I noticed the Nars primer stayed a bit moist even after applying it, which I love because it helps make your makeup not look cakey and makes the skin nice and healthy looking. The Makeup ForEver stayed creamy for a bit, but dried quicker than the Nars primer.

The winner of the day goes to......Nars Pro-Prime. Love!! After it was all said and done, the Nars primer conquered all. I noticed a visible difference in pore size and it felt like silk when I touched my face. I've used the Makeup ForEver Primer for a while now and it really is a great primer, but I'm definitely going to have to switch it up and start my day off right with the Nars Pro-Prime primer.

What do you guys think? Have you ever tried these products? What's your go-to primer?

Organization Is Key

So lately I've been in the organizing mood and I just can't stop! From my pantry to my house to now my makeup bag, and let me tell you it got crazy. Apparently, I'm a makeup hoarder and am in need of an intervention...bad. I have so much makeup it's ridiculous and needed a way to keep everything in order and neat. I had so many little containers of neutralizers and concealers and just couldn't figure out a way to make life (and consultations) easier.

It then hit me like a brick! I needed a palette. Heaven forbid, adding another palette to my bulging, over filled makeup case is exactly what I needed, but it also eliminates a ton of hassle and anxiety caused by all the small, individual containers I had. So I took steps to make this happen and here's the process:

Here they are.... the culprits to all anxiety filled makeup kit moments. Ok, ok maybe it's not that bad, but sometimes I do just want punt these things right out the window.  "Tell us how ya really feel, Perry...." You can probably feel my frustration right about now and I can't stress enough how happy I am to have done this.

To get this project accomplished, these are all of the supplies that I needed (yes, wine included). I used an empty palette container from a makeup store I shop at :), a silver sharper with a fine tip, a spatula, and the makeup.

You'll want to use a small makeup spatula instead of a knife for this only because the individual trays that the makeup is going in are very small and this will help control the mess and save on product.

Use the silver sharpie to write on the outside of each individual tray to show which product is which.

After much anticipation and being covered in concealer/neutralizer from head to toe, this is THE final product. It's a very tedious and messy (to say the least) project to do, but the end result is amazing and so worth it! It's so nice to have everything in one spot and I can just grab it and go when I'm on a job. Can't wait to try this baby out!

What do y'all think? What are some organization tips or tricks that you've done?
