Prime Time

It's mind boggling to think how many products are out on the market today. It almost makes your head spin and not to mention the amount of competition between all of them. Sheesh! Well, yesterday I went to the streets (well, technically I went to the makeup counter in my bathroom) and wanted to see which, of all the primers out there, is the best.

So many primers, so little time....so I decided to do a little "product-off" of my very own. I took two of what I think are some of the best primers on the market and tested them out for a day: Nars Pro-Prime and Makeup ForEver's HD Primer. I love both of these products individually, but yet they both do their own thang. Nars Pro-Prime is a creamy liquid primer that helps minimize pore size and helps control the oil on the skin. Makeup ForEver's HD Primer is fabulous and probably one of my favorite products of all time. It helps with oil control and helps smooth out your makeup. Both of these products help makeup stay on longer and helps keep makeup from settling into pores.

To start my experiment, I washed and dried my face. I then added my eye cream for the day (preventative reasons of course y'all). Then I added a touch of moisturizer with SPF 45 to ward off premature aging and wrinkles (no bueno).

One of the few times you'll see
me without my face on :)
I then applied the Nars Pro-Prime to the right side of my face and Makeup ForEver HD Primer to the left side of my face. I then continued on with applying my makeup for the day and instantly started to see a difference between the two. I noticed the Nars primer stayed a bit moist even after applying it, which I love because it helps make your makeup not look cakey and makes the skin nice and healthy looking. The Makeup ForEver stayed creamy for a bit, but dried quicker than the Nars primer.

The winner of the day goes to......Nars Pro-Prime. Love!! After it was all said and done, the Nars primer conquered all. I noticed a visible difference in pore size and it felt like silk when I touched my face. I've used the Makeup ForEver Primer for a while now and it really is a great primer, but I'm definitely going to have to switch it up and start my day off right with the Nars Pro-Prime primer.

What do you guys think? Have you ever tried these products? What's your go-to primer?

Organization Is Key

So lately I've been in the organizing mood and I just can't stop! From my pantry to my house to now my makeup bag, and let me tell you it got crazy. Apparently, I'm a makeup hoarder and am in need of an intervention...bad. I have so much makeup it's ridiculous and needed a way to keep everything in order and neat. I had so many little containers of neutralizers and concealers and just couldn't figure out a way to make life (and consultations) easier.

It then hit me like a brick! I needed a palette. Heaven forbid, adding another palette to my bulging, over filled makeup case is exactly what I needed, but it also eliminates a ton of hassle and anxiety caused by all the small, individual containers I had. So I took steps to make this happen and here's the process:

Here they are.... the culprits to all anxiety filled makeup kit moments. Ok, ok maybe it's not that bad, but sometimes I do just want punt these things right out the window.  "Tell us how ya really feel, Perry...." You can probably feel my frustration right about now and I can't stress enough how happy I am to have done this.

To get this project accomplished, these are all of the supplies that I needed (yes, wine included). I used an empty palette container from a makeup store I shop at :), a silver sharper with a fine tip, a spatula, and the makeup.

You'll want to use a small makeup spatula instead of a knife for this only because the individual trays that the makeup is going in are very small and this will help control the mess and save on product.

Use the silver sharpie to write on the outside of each individual tray to show which product is which.

After much anticipation and being covered in concealer/neutralizer from head to toe, this is THE final product. It's a very tedious and messy (to say the least) project to do, but the end result is amazing and so worth it! It's so nice to have everything in one spot and I can just grab it and go when I'm on a job. Can't wait to try this baby out!

What do y'all think? What are some organization tips or tricks that you've done?

Golden Globes 2012!!

It's that time of year again! the infamous red carpet is out, the camera's are flashing, and interviews are getting underway. Who's excited?! Me me me!! During award season I love staying up late on Sunday nights to watch the award shows and see all the glitz and glam. This year I'm super excited to see all the stars come out again and especially see what's new this year in fashion and makeup.

For the Golden Globes last night, I think everyone looked fabulous, not to mention Brad Pitt looking as hot as ever (mmm there's just something about him). Of course, there are the best of the best and the worst of the worst, but here are a few of my favorites from last night:

Emma Stone

Kate Beckinsale

Angelina Jolie

Charlize Theron

I love love love the looks that these four women chose. From makeup to their designer gowns they looked magnificent, even if they did have a team of experts to get them looking this fab. The one person that had the best look from head to toe, especially their makeup is Kate Beckinsale. How gorgeous did she look?! Her look was very classic, her makeup was remarkable and very natural looking. I noticed a trend on the red carpet last night was glowing, beautiful skin and she was definitely one of them. I loved that her skin just glowed from the inside and out and was very healthy looking. I immediately  decided I need to get back on track with my tan (and diet). I just can't rave enough about her!

So who do you think won the "glam award" for best makeup last night? Who looked the best and who looked the worst?

Lines.Be.Gone

The inevitable has happened, y'all. Ladies I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.... the dreaded wrinkles have sprung! (Gasp). Yes, it's true. I never thought the day would come, but unfortunately it has.

Some bad lighting, but a little
sample of what I'm workin' with:)

As I was doing my nightly routine last night (shower, tweeze eye-brows, and scope my face in the magnified mirror ahh!!), I discovered something awful...wrinkles. I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought to myself "how could this be?" Then again it happens to the best of us, right? My mind immediately went into overdrive, what can I do? What will reverse this? Can I prevent this? For most women, this is not an easy road to come by. It then hit me to take action using different products and perhaps a new nightly routine... Hmmmm:)

I've always been a stickler about washing the day off before I go to bed every night. Even if I'm dead-dog tired, I gots to! If not, another dreaded present will arrive right between my eyes if I don't. I'm that girl, with that skin ha:) I usually wash my face, add a lil serum, and moisturize. Apparently, this is not enough. Sooooo, I'm going to challenge my routine (and my face) and see what I come up with. I'm going to switch out some products and add in some new. Why not?! It couldn't hurt, right?

I'm still going to wash my face morning and night, but instead of just doing the usual, I'm going to revamp! I'm going to add a low formula wrinkle serum and add a more moisturizing night cream or oil. I read one time that a woman believed that the culprit to wrinkles was lack of moisture and she even woke up in the middle of the night to add more moisturizer to her face. Now...I'm pretty sure I'm not going to wake up to add extra moisturizer because another thing to having good skin is beauty rest:), but I have always taken it into consideration that moisturizing has a lot to do with it.

I'm going to be doing my research on this one y'all (heavy, heavy research) and will definitely let you know what I come up with. Stay tuned...

Makeup Me Crazy

Happy Tuesday, y'all! You know when you wake up in the morning, birds singing, coffee brewing, breakfast cooking...Yea, it was kinda like one of those mornings for me. I don't know if I just absolutely love what I do or if its because the night before I layed out every piece of makeup I own on my living room floor and re-organized my kit. I choose both!

I had a bride trial-run this morning that I had to wake up semi early for, so while I had some time to spare and feeling very festive, I decided to lay it on with my new MAC makeup products that I purchased the other day (just incase you haven't seen ALL the pictures I've posted).

This picture really doesn't do it justice, but I had to snap and run after taking my sweet lil time in the bathroom this morning. I'm loving me some MAC makeup! This is a huge deal for me due to the fact for years I haven't really been a fan of the makeup line as I always thought it was highly overrated, but for a lil switch up, it ain't all bad.

I ended up using five different colors to achieve this look and really love the variety that you can do with these colors. I used Goldmine all over the eye to start and added a little bit of Expensive Pink in the crease to create a nice contrast between the two colors. You could even stop here, which is what I like to do in the summer, but I wanted a little added smokiness in my look. I added a touch of Mulch to the outer corner and really concentrated that color there to really get that smoke goin'. To switch it up a bit I added Deep Damson over the top of that and moved it towards the middle to create a cranberry coloring. I finished it with MAC's infamous and my favorite gel liner Fluidline in Blacktrack and really dramatized my usual cat eye. Usually I add the gel liner to the bottom lash line, but I'm rally into added brown powder and wetting my flat brush and creating brown liner on the bottom. In doing this your adding liner without the harshness of the black.

There you have it! I'm so in love with these colors and this look. You can add as many colors on top of one another and create so much dimension to your shadow or just choose one or two for an easy summer look at the beach. So fun and yet so simple! Who knew?! Try this at home and tell me what ya think!

New Year, New You

Well, hello there!! Yes, it has been a hot minute since I have been considered a fellow blogger, but I can only guess that the holiday's with good friends and family (and good eggnog:)) can be blamed for my absence from the blog world.

It's a new year so you know what that means...resolutions. Yes, the dreaded resolutions that come every January and seem to disappear around the month of May. This year is going to be completely different. I have vowed what I like to call my "makeup revamping" resolution this year. I vow to literally throw all of myself into the fabulous makeup world and come out on top! I'm very excited for what is to come this year and all the gorgeous looks, styles, and products that come with it.

A lil skin care routine I love:)

My first MAC Cosmetics palette

These are just a few of the products that I've recently indulged in to kick the new year off right and some that I have promised myself to use religiously throughout the year to get back into a routine. My skin care routine sometimes lack (so sad), but now that I just purchased some heavy duty DDF moisturizer I am back in the game. After many-a-months of back and forth I finally broke down and bought some MAC eyeshadows. BEST DECISION YET! Love the colors and the many looks that you can get out of so few colors, I'm stoked to get down and dirty (posting pics soon!!). So there's a lil dabble in what I have going on for the future and the fabulous makeup world out there. Tune in for what's to come this year, y'all!! Happy 2012!!
